Installation
Windows platform :
Installing MyChineseFlashCards is very easy. Like any software that is based on chinese characters, MyChineseFlashcards requires the installation of the chinese character fonts. Then, all you have to do is double click on the MyChineseFlashcards.exe executable. A wizard will guide you through the installation process.
a) Installing the chinese characters fonts:
- Open the Control Panel (Click the "Start Menu" and chose the "Control Panel").
- Click the "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options" icon
- Select the "Add Other languages" task. You should then see the "Regional and Language Options" dialog box as shown below.
- Click on the "Install files for East Asian Languages" check box (This ensures that the correct fonts are installed).
- Click the "Details" button. You should then see the "Text Services and Input Languages"
- Click the OK button. You may be asked to reboot your machine.
b) Installing MyChineseFlashCards
- Download the MyChineseFlashCardsX_X.zip file
- Unzip MyChineseFlashCardsX_X.zip. Right click on MyChineseFlashCards.zip. Choose 'Winzip/Extract here'.
- Go in the folder MyChineseFlashCardsX_X
- To execute the application , double click on MyChineseFlashCards.bat
Caution: Java must be installed on your computer. It is likely that the Java runtime is already installed on your computer. In that case , you won't have to install it. If you don't know if Java is installed or not, start to install the application. During the installation the application will check the presence of the java runtime. If Java is not installed, you will get a message telling you so. You will be invited to install Java by clicking on a link.
Mac OS X :
To launch MyChineseFlashCards, just double-click on it.
To put it in the dock, just take MyChineseFlashCards icon and drop it in the dock
Linux :
To install MyChineseFlashCards on Linux you have to follow three steps:
- 1) install the Java runtime environment (Java 1.5 or higher)
- 2) Install the MyChineseFlashCards application,
- 3) launch the application.
1) installing the Java runtime environment:
- go to http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.5/download.html#sdk
- download the JDK 1.5
- double-click on the j2eesdk-1_4_03-linux.bin to install it (for instance /usr/jdk/ )
- type in : cd
- add : export /usr/jdk/bin:$PATH in the .bashrc, to force the execution of the sun jdk over the gnu gjc
- type in: . ./.bashrc
2) Installing MyChineseFlashCards:
- Download the MyChineseFlashCardsX_X_Linux.jar,
- open a Unix console,
- go in the folder where MyChineseFlashCardsX_X_Linux.jar has been placed,
- type in : java -jar myChineseFlashCardsXX_Linux.jar,
- an installation wizard shows up. Follow the instructions given by the wizard.
3) launch the application:
- type in: cd MyChineseFlashCards (to go in the installation folder of myChineseFlashCards),
- type in: cd Bin/Linux,
- type in: chmod u+x MyChineseFlashCards.sh
- type in: ./MyChineseFlashCards.sh. MychineseFlashCards is being launched.
